How much should an auto detailing business spend on Meta & Facebook ads in 2026?
Written by Karbon Agency, Editorial team · Updated September 26, 2026
Plan on $1,000–$4,000/mo in Meta ad spend, plus a flat agency retainer. No neutral publisher has a Meta cost per lead for detailing: LocaliQ's all-industry average is $27.39, and a detailing-focused agency quotes $15–$35 for lead-form ads. A sedan full detail sells for $150–$250 and a ceramic coating for $900–$2,500, so a one-off detail barely supports a Meta lead while a coating supports up to about $290. Advertise the coating, not the wash.

What each budget buys an auto detailing business
Ad spend goes straight to Meta. The cost-per-lead column is the range published by the sources listed at the end of this page — not a promise, and not our own averages dressed up as an industry figure.
| Stage | Monthly ad spend | What you get | Expected cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test | Up to $1,000/mo | One high-ticket service — usually ceramic coating or paint correction — in one radius. Roughly 26–36 leads a month at the published averages, enough to learn whether your quotes close before the budget grows. | $27–$55LocaliQ all-industry Meta average $27.39 (no detailing row); up to 2× while testing (Karbon estimate) |
| GrowthMost common | $1,000–$4,000/mo | Meta lead forms for coating, PPF and tint, plus search and Local Services Ads for people already looking — and a membership offer so the lead that bought one detail is worth a year of them. | $15–$35 Meta · $20–$100 searchNoah For Detailers (lead forms, citing AdAmigo); Detailers Movement Google CPL by service |
| Scale | $5,000+/mo | Separate campaigns per service line, each with its own creative and cost-per-booking target, because a tint lead and a full-car PPF lead are not the same purchase. | $20–$60 tint · $30–$80 ceramic · $40–$100 PPFDetailers Movement: Google Ads CPL by service line |

Three disagreements, stated plainly. First, ceramic coating: Jobber prices a professional install at $450–$2,000 and Housecall Pro at $900–$2,500. Housecall Pro prices paint correction separately at $300–$2,500+, and most of the gap is whether the quote includes it — so compare like with like before you decide your coating is cheap or expensive. Second, the market: IBISWorld sizes car wash and auto detailing at $17.0bn in 2026 and says revenue has been shrinking 0.4% a year since 2021; MMCG Invest says $19.2bn with a 14.1% average operating margin. Both are dominated by car washes, so neither tells you much about a detailer. Third, cost per lead: every detailing-specific figure on this page comes from an agency that sells to detailers. The Meta lead-form range, $15–$35, straddles LocaliQ's all-industry $27.39 rather than sitting above it, which is plausible but unverifiable — agencies have a reason to quote low, and LocaliQ publishes no detailing row to check them against.
What changes the number for an auto detailing shop
Automotive splits by intent. Emergency and repair work (mechanic, tires) rides on Google Search where clicks cost more because the customer is ready to buy today. Considered services (wraps, tint, detailing) run cheaper on Meta with visual before/after creative. Where your shop sits on that spectrum is the biggest driver of what you'll pay per lead.
- The service you advertise matters more than the auctionA sedan full detail sells for $150–$250 (Jobber); a ceramic coating for $900–$2,500 (Housecall Pro); full-front PPF for $1,800–$3,000 (Capital Wrappers). Lead prices differ by service too — Detailers Movement puts search leads at $20–$60 for tint and $40–$100 for PPF — but the ticket behind them varies about ten-fold, which is far more. Detailers who advertise the wash and upsell the coating usually conclude Meta does not work; detailers who advertise the coating usually do not.
- Search converts detailing intent unusually wellLocaliQ's automotive repair, service & parts search row converts at 15.51% for $29.96 a lead — the second-highest conversion rate in its table, and less than half the $66.69 all-industry search lead. Detailers Movement puts detailing search leads at $20–$100 by service. Search is not the expensive channel here the way it is for dentists or movers, so it belongs in the growth tier rather than being saved for later.
- Detailing is a Local Services Ads categoryGoogle lists 'Car Detailing Service', 'Auto Window tinting Service' and 'Car Wash' among its US Local Services Ads categories, so a detailer can run the same lead-based placement plumbers and HVAC firms use. No publisher we could find has a detailing Local Services Ads cost per lead yet — SearchLight's widely cited table covers home trades only — so treat your own first month as the benchmark.
- A membership turns one lead into a year of revenueShop price lists we read put a monthly full detail at $160 (Deluxe Detailing, Columbus) to $167–$217 by vehicle size (Clean Mobile Detailing, Utah), and the Utah shop requires a minimum of three appointments. Three visits at $167 is $501 — two to three times a one-off detail — from the same lead. These are two shops' prices, not a survey, but the arithmetic holds at any price.
- Automotive clicks cost a little more, and the car is visualLocaliQ's automotive repair traffic row is $0.74 a click and 1.51% click-through, against $0.60 and 1.93% across all industries — slightly dearer clicks and fewer of them. Detailing's advantage is that the result is photographable: a 50-50 paint correction or a water-beading coating clip is the ad. Creative that shows the finish is the cheapest way to beat a below-average click-through rate.
- The cars are old and there are a lot of themS&P Global Mobility puts the average US light vehicle at 12.8 years old across 289 million vehicles in operation (2025). An owner keeping a car longer is a paint-correction and coating customer for longer. That argues for a 'restore, then protect' offer aimed at the cars people already own, not only new-car positioning.
The only number that matters: your break-even cost per lead
Work backwards from profit on the job. Jobber puts auto detailing profit margins at 15–35%. On a $150–$250 sedan full detail that is $23–$88 of profit, and on a $900–$2,500 ceramic coating (Housecall Pro) it is $135–$875. Nobody publishes a lead-to-booking rate for detailing, so we assume one lead in three books — if you are willing to spend the entire profit on the first job to win the customer, break-even is $8–$29 per lead for a one-off detail and $45–$292 for a coating. The all-industry Meta average of $27.39 sits at the very top of the full-detail band and below the whole coating band. Use Jobber's lower $450 coating floor and the bottom of the coating band drops to $23 — just under the Meta average. A one-off detail only pays for its lead if the customer comes back; a coating pays for it on the day. Swap in your own margin and booking rate before you believe any of it.
How Karbon prices it
What we would actually recommend: start in the test tier advertising your highest-margin service — ceramic coating or paint correction, not a full detail — with before-and-after video of your own work and a quote form that asks for the vehicle. At one booking in three a coating lead can cost up to about $290 and still repay its first job, while a full-detail lead has to come in under about $29. Once coating quotes are closing, move to the growth tier, add search and Local Services Ads under 'Car Detailing Service', and put a monthly membership in front of every one-off customer, because that is what makes a $27 lead for a $150 detail worth buying. Karbon charges a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend.
Typical local-business agency retainers run $500–$3,000/mo depending on scope, channels, and how much strategy and creative is included — that fee is on top of your ad spend, which goes straight to the ad platforms.
Karbon uses a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend — no percentage-of-spend markup, so your fee doesn't inflate just because your budget grows. Marketing (Meta ads management with a free landing page) starts at $1,500/month, with Google Ads available as an add-on, month-to-month; performance-based pricing is available on request, and there's no long-term lock-in.

Frequently asked questions
How much should an auto detailing business spend on Facebook ads per month?
Most single-location detailers should plan around $1,000–$4,000/mo in Meta ad spend. At LocaliQ's $27.39 all-industry average that is roughly 36–146 leads a month; there is no published detailing figure. Detailers Movement suggests smaller Google budgets for small operators — $300–$800 a month for a solo mobile detailer and $800–$2,000 for a one-to-three-tech shop.
What does a detailing lead cost on Facebook?
No neutral publisher has a detailing row. LocaliQ's all-industry Meta lead average is $27.39 and its personal-services category is $38.09 (September 2026). Noah For Detailers, an agency, quotes $15–$35 per lead on lead-form ads and $25–$55 on ads sending traffic to a website. Automotive-repair traffic clicks cost $0.74 on Meta (LocaliQ).
Is Google or Facebook better for detailers?
Both, for different jobs. LocaliQ's automotive repair, service & parts search category converts at 15.51% for $29.96 a lead — high intent and cheap by search standards. Meta is better at selling a coating or PPF to someone who was not searching for one. Detailing is also listed as a Google Local Services Ads category ('Car Detailing Service').
How much does a ceramic coating cost the customer?
$450–$2,000 according to Jobber (April 2026) and $900–$2,500 according to Housecall Pro (August 2026). The difference is mostly paint correction, which Housecall Pro prices separately at $300–$600 for one step, up to $1,200–$2,500+ for three. Full-front paint protection film runs $1,800–$3,000 at one installer's published prices.
What is the break-even cost per lead for a detailer?
At one booking in three and Jobber's 15–35% margin, about $8–$29 per lead for a one-off sedan full detail and $45–$292 for a $900–$2,500 ceramic coating. The booking rate is an assumption — nobody publishes one — and it moves every figure proportionally. A membership customer is worth several times a one-off detail, which lifts the full-detail figure.
Do detailing memberships make ads more profitable?
Yes, arithmetically. Two shop price lists we read put a monthly full detail at $160 (Deluxe Detailing) and $167–$217 by vehicle size (Clean Mobile Detailing, which requires at least three appointments). Three visits at $167 is $501 from one lead — two to three times the $150–$250 of a single sedan detail (Jobber).
How big is the car wash and detailing market?
IBISWorld puts US car wash and auto detailing at $17.0 billion in 2026 across 16,745 businesses, with revenue shrinking 0.4% a year since 2021. MMCG Invest estimates $19.2 billion and a 14.1% average operating margin. Both are dominated by car washes. S&P Global Mobility counts 289 million vehicles in operation, averaging 12.8 years old (2025).
What does window tint cost, and is it worth advertising?
Yelp's cost guide puts the average car window tint at $195, in a $85–$335 range, from 463,691 quotes (September 2026). Detailers Movement puts tint search leads at $20–$60. At a $195 ticket, tint behaves more like a full detail than a coating — worth advertising as an add-on to a coating or PPF job rather than on its own.
What does an agency cost for an auto detailing shop?
Typical local-business agency retainers run $500–$3,000/mo depending on scope, channels, and how much strategy and creative is included — that fee is on top of your ad spend, which goes straight to the ad platforms. Karbon charges a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend. Marketing and the AI receptionist are month-to-month — no long-term lock-in. Websites are a one-time build.
Can I do performance-based pricing?
Yes — performance-based pricing is available on request. We'll scope it on a call, because a fair performance deal depends on your margins, lead value, and how conversions get tracked. Either way, there's no long-term lock-in.
