How much should a heating and cooling (HVAC) company spend on Meta & Facebook ads in 2026?
Written by Karbon Agency, Editorial team · Updated September 27, 2026
Plan on $1,000–$4,000/mo in Meta ad spend, plus a flat agency retainer. The Meta benchmark for home services is $42.95 per lead; HVAC leads cost $51 on Google Local Services Ads and $104–$149 on Google Ads (SearchLight, 2026). At a 40% margin a $350 repair breaks even at $28–$62 a lead, while the $2,110 average ad-acquired ticket supports $169–$371 — so use Meta to sell tune-ups and replacements, not repairs.

What each budget buys a heating and cooling (HVAC) company
Ad spend goes straight to Meta. The cost-per-lead column is the range published by the sources listed at the end of this page — not a promise, and not our own averages dressed up as an industry figure.
| Stage | Monthly ad spend | What you get | Expected cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test | Up to $1,000/mo | One offer in your service radius — a seasonal tune-up, a maintenance plan or a free replacement estimate — not 'AC repair near me', which is search demand Meta cannot create. Enough volume to learn your own form-fill book rate. | $43–$90LocaliQ $42.95 Home & Home Improvement benchmark (no HVAC row); expect up to 2× while testing (Karbon estimate) |
| GrowthMost common | $1,000–$4,000/mo | Meta for planned work — maintenance plans, replacements before the season — plus Local Services Ads for the broken-system call. The two channels are measured on booked jobs, because a call and a form fill do not book at the same rate. | $43 Meta · $51 LSA · $104–$149 Google AdsLocaliQ $42.95 · SearchLight $51 LSA (Feb 2026), $104 blended / $149 non-branded Google Ads (Jan 2026) |
| Scale | $5,000+/mo | Separate campaigns per service line and season, retargeting of past estimates, and budget held back for the first heatwave and first freeze — when demand, and every competitor's bid, arrives at once. | $86–$231 by service line (search)SearchLight non-branded Google Ads: AC maintenance $86 → heating repair $144 → AC install $157 → AC repair $231 |

The search figures disagree and we are publishing all of them. SearchLight measures $104 per lead blended and $149 non-branded across 816 HVAC and plumbing contractors in January 2026; LocaliQ's home-services report puts AC installation and repair at $127.74 and heating at $129.02 on April 2024 – March 2025 data; and LocaliQ's 2026 cross-industry table puts all of Home & Home Improvement at $90.92. The ranges overlap once you separate branded from non-branded search. Replacement cost disagrees too: Modernize's $11,590–$14,100 is from 56,000 homeowner projects, while This Old House reports $16,759 for a full system installation. And marketing budgets run from 5–10% of revenue (BDR, an HVAC consultancy) to 10–20% (ServiceTitan, citing Contracting Business) — nobody neutral publishes this for HVAC with a method.
What changes the number for an HVAC company
Home services see some of the highest CPCs on search because so much demand is emergency intent — a burst pipe or dead AC means the first company called wins the job. High job values justify those clicks, but seasonality (summer HVAC, storm-season roofing) swings both demand and auction prices, so budgets should flex with the calendar.
- Repair or replacement decides whether a paid lead paysHomeAdvisor puts the average HVAC repair at $350; Modernize puts a full replacement at $11,590–$14,100. SearchLight's ad-acquired HVAC jobs averaged $2,110 — six times the average repair. At a 40% margin, a $350 repair supports at most $62 a lead even at the LSA book rate — a replacement at $11,590–$14,100 is thirty-three to forty times the ticket. Campaigns that only ever sell repairs are fighting the arithmetic.
- A call and a form fill do not book at the same rateLocal Services Ads leads are phone calls, and 44.0% of HVAC LSA leads booked in SearchLight's February 2026 data. A Meta lead is a form fill from someone who was not searching, and no publisher we could verify reports its book rate. The $42.95 Meta lead is cheaper than the $51 LSA lead, but not per booked job unless your follow-up is fast.
- Answer rate is the cheapest lever in the accountServiceTitan's call data (June 2022) found HVAC shops book 38% of inbound calls — about 24% for shops under five technicians and 59% for shops with twenty-five or more. Built on Tenth reports an industry-average answer rate of 68% against 91%+ for the top quartile. A missed call on a $51 LSA lead is still charged; fixing answer rate lowers every channel's cost per job at once.
- Maintenance plans turn a one-job customer into a recurring oneSmartService prices basic residential agreements at $150–$300 a year and comprehensive ones at $300–$500, and says auto-renewing plans renew at 80%+ against 40–50% for manual renewal. A maintenance offer is also the natural Meta product: SearchLight's small AC-maintenance segment (17 accounts) ran the lowest non-branded search lead at $86 and a $3,692 average ticket once repair and replacement upsells were counted.
- Season moves demand more than any bid settingSearchLight notes its February LSA data is heating season, which lifts both book rate and ticket, and ServiceTitan found HVAC booking rates lower in summer than in the shoulder seasons. We found no dated, measured series of HVAC cost per click by month, so we will not quote one — but budget held back for the first heatwave and first freeze is the difference between catching that demand and paying peak prices for it.
- Refrigerant rules and the end of the heat-pump credit change the offerSince January 1, 2025, EPA has limited new residential and light-commercial AC and heat-pump systems to refrigerants under 700 GWP; after a May 2026 reconsideration rule, systems built entirely from components made or imported before that date have no installation deadline. Separately, the federal 25C credit of up to $2,000 a year for heat pumps does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025 — ads still promising it for a 2026 install are making a claim the IRS has withdrawn.
The only number that matters: your break-even cost per lead
Work backwards from gross profit, not revenue. Our HVAC benchmark page assumes a 40% gross margin, and we keep it here. A $350 repair (HomeAdvisor's national average) earns $140 of gross profit. If a lead books at SearchLight's measured 44.0% LSA rate, it is worth $154 of revenue and at most $62 of ad spend; if it books at the 20% we assume for a Meta form fill — no neutral figure exists — the ceiling is $28. Now use SearchLight's $2,110 average ticket for ad-acquired HVAC jobs instead: the same arithmetic gives $371 per lead at 44% and $169 at 20%. So a $51 LSA lead pays even on a repair, a $42.95 Meta lead pays on anything bigger than a repair, and a $149 non-branded search lead only pays on the larger tickets. The measured check agrees: SearchLight's non-branded search customers cost $804 against a $2,516 average ticket — 32% of the job, inside a 40% margin but not by much. Replace the 40% and the 20% with your own numbers first.
How Karbon prices it
What we would actually recommend: do not use Meta to chase repair calls — that demand already exists on Google, and Local Services Ads at $51 a lead with a 44% book rate is the cheaper way to catch it. Use the test tier on one planned-work offer — a pre-season tune-up or maintenance plan — and measure how many form fills book before scaling. Move to the growth tier once you have that number, running Meta for maintenance and replacement alongside LSA for the broken-system call, and fix answer rate before raising any bid. Keep ad copy current on refrigerant and on tax credits, since the 25C heat-pump credit ended with 2025. Karbon charges a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend.
Typical local-business agency retainers run $500–$3,000/mo depending on scope, channels, and how much strategy and creative is included — that fee is on top of your ad spend, which goes straight to the ad platforms.
Karbon uses a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend — no percentage-of-spend markup, so your fee doesn't inflate just because your budget grows. Marketing (Meta ads management with a free landing page) starts at $1,500/month, with Google Ads available as an add-on, month-to-month; performance-based pricing is available on request, and there's no long-term lock-in.

Frequently asked questions
How much should an HVAC company spend on Facebook ads per month?
Most single-location HVAC companies should plan around $1,000–$4,000/mo in Meta ad spend. At LocaliQ's $42.95 home-services benchmark that is roughly 23–93 leads a month. Total marketing budgets are usually quoted at 5–10% of revenue (BDR) to 10–20% (ServiceTitan, citing Contracting Business), which also has to cover search, LSA and the website.
What does an HVAC lead cost on Facebook, Google and Local Services Ads?
About $42.95 on Meta (LocaliQ's Home & Home Improvement category, September 2026 — there is no HVAC-only row), $51 on Google Local Services Ads with a 44.0% book rate (SearchLight, February 2026), and $104 blended on Google Ads — $34 branded, $72 Performance Max, $149 non-branded (SearchLight, January 2026). LocaliQ's HVAC search figures are $127.74 for AC and $129.02 for heating.
What is the break-even cost per lead for an HVAC company?
At a 40% gross margin, $28–$62 a lead on a $350 repair and $169–$371 on SearchLight's $2,110 average ad-acquired ticket. The low end assumes one Meta form fill in five books; the high end uses the measured 44.0% LSA book rate. A replacement at $11,590–$14,100 (Modernize) supports far more.
How much does it cost to acquire an HVAC customer?
SearchLight measures $233 per paying customer across home-services LSA campaigns and $804 on non-branded Google Ads, where the average ticket was $2,516. Built on Tenth's survey of 300+ HVAC companies puts the industry-average cost per booked job at $140–$280 on LSA and $280–$520 on Google Ads, against $380–$900 from aggregators such as Angi.
Is Facebook or Google better for HVAC leads?
Google for broken systems, Meta for planned work. Local Services Ads cost $51 a lead and book 44.0% of calls because the homeowner is already looking. Meta is cheaper per lead at $42.95 but reaches people who were not searching, so it sells maintenance plans ($150–$500 a year) and replacements before they are urgent.
Can HVAC ads still mention the $2,000 heat pump tax credit?
Not for 2026 installs. The IRS says the 25C energy-efficient home improvement credit — up to $2,000 a year for qualified heat pumps — does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Ads that still promise it for a new installation are out of date; check state and utility rebates instead.
Why do HVAC ads stop working in the middle of summer?
Often they have not — the phones have. ServiceTitan's June 2022 data found HVAC booking rates lower in summer than in the shoulder seasons, and 38% of inbound calls booked overall. When call volume spikes, answer rate falls; Built on Tenth reports a 68% industry-average answer rate against 91%+ for top performers.
How much do HVAC maintenance plans sell for, and do they renew?
SmartService puts basic residential plans at $150–$300 a year and comprehensive plans at $300–$500, with 80%+ renewal on auto-renew against 40–50% on manual renewal. That recurring revenue is what lets a shop pay more than a repair ticket justifies for the first lead.
What does an agency cost for an HVAC company?
Typical local-business agency retainers run $500–$3,000/mo depending on scope, channels, and how much strategy and creative is included — that fee is on top of your ad spend, which goes straight to the ad platforms. Karbon charges a flat monthly retainer plus your ad spend. Marketing and the AI receptionist are month-to-month — no long-term lock-in. Websites are a one-time build.
Can I do performance-based pricing?
Yes — performance-based pricing is available on request. We'll scope it on a call, because a fair performance deal depends on your margins, lead value, and how conversions get tracked. Either way, there's no long-term lock-in.
